Think of all the people struggling with the worst case of depression all the parents that today lost their son people living with uncurable severe chronic pain all the kids starving to an inevitable death right now. Plus, it sounds so peaceful just to push the button. I did a search but we all know how useful that is. And I don't only mean breaking a bone but miserable existence. Two primary drivers make me think I should push the button:ġ- Suffering. I think that is missing the point entirely and one example of being unknowingly cruel. When I ask this question around, I usually get a very quick "of course not", and it's often behind a vague "it'd be morally wrong" because you are "taking" someone's life or choosing life or death for them. Its part of the way our culture does all relationships. (This is an absolute hypothetical, it has nothing to do with anything real in the world.) When we are irritated or upset with our partner, most of us focus on what that person did to you. Bearing in mind the unimaginable suffering of millions of people right now and assuming no afterlife of any kind, why would you/not push it? If a railroad worker was dumb enough to get himself stuck in a railroad track I’m not going to cause an innocent kid to die in his place. There's a button you can push that will instantly and painlessly end all human life on earth, yours included.
